On-page SEO is the opposite of off-page SEO. While Off-page SEO deals with optimization methods used on other websites, on-page SEO focuses on optimization methods used on your site for text, videos or additional documents in Word or PDF form. Items to be optimized are keywords, page titles, page descriptions, internal and external links, and image alt tags.

Page Title This is the first part of your site to be seen by search engines. Absolute care should therefore be taken when optimizing this part. The title should be appropriate and include the keywords you are optimizing. Many directories actually require you to include your business name too during submission.

Combining your business name and keyword in the page title can be tricky. It calls for a lot of creativity so that the meaning is not lost in the process. Each title should also be different but designed uniformly. Include your business name, keyword(s) and a call to action, in that order. It should not exceed 120 characters or be less than 64.

All keywords in the title should be copied in the keyword Meta tags and description tags. Description

This explains what your website is all about. It should follow this format: <meta name=”description| content=YOUR DESCRIPTION HERE.”/>

Although search engines do not consider description tags much when ranking sites, it is still important to have an impressive description tag 1, because directories will use the description tag to describe your site in their listings 2. it is likely to appear in search results, at least in part.

Keywords This includes the most relevant keywords to your webpages. It should follow this format: < meta name=” keywords” content=keyword1, keyword2, etc.”/> Separate each keyword with a coma, for example, “fresh orange juice,frozen fruit juice,organicjuices”. Here, the keywords are, “fresh orange juice”, frozen orange juice” and “organic juices”.

Keyword tags seem to be the least valuable for SEO, but they are useful in marking out the keywords to be used in a page. As little as only one keyword per page is allowed. They should not exceed 35 or your site may be seen as a potential spam site.

The Breadcrumb Trail This is an easy and valuable on-page optimization method. It’s usually the first text line to appear on your page so you can use the strongest keywords (”orange juice” in the example below). In all its applications, only a simple navigation bar is added, such as: OrangeJuice >> Fresh Orange Juice >> Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice Recipes Every keyword used has an internal link to another page on your website. This makes it easy for search engine spiders and visitors to browse through your site.

Headers It is important to place the stronger keywords on the header as search engines often give header values more value. If several of your sub-headers read “Orange Juice”, it is right to assume that your article is about orange juice. These headers have their own tags in HTML, such as: <h1> and <h2>

The lower the number, the greater the SEO advantage it has. Always follow the procedure where the headline has a < h1 > Tag and every sub header thereafter has an < h2 >

Body Text Use between 400-500 words per webpage. The keyword should appear exactly as it is nearer the beginning of paragraphs than towards the end. Image Alt Tags

Use these to describe your images. Include keywords in the description. The above elements should be used on every webpage. When used well, they will help your site be highly ranked in all search engines.
